Welcome to the memorial website for Giovanni Palatucci, the “Italian Schindler,” honored for saving thousands of Jews during World War II.

Palatucci, sometimes called the Italian Schindler, was the police chief in Fiume during WWII. He defied Nazi orders and forged documents to help Jews escape persecution. He was deported to Dachau concentration camp in 1944 and died there in 1945.

Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center in Jerusalem, recognized Giovanni Palatucci as Righteous Among the Nations in 1990.

A memorial park in Ramat Gan, Israel was named in his honor, serving as a symbol of gratitude and interfaith respect.
